The first project set in year 3 of the modelmaking course was to get a brief from an external client. I contacted the artist Chet Zar about this, and he agreed for me to create a 3-dimensional sculpture of the character in his painting 'Abandoned'. Chet is a master of darkly surreal character painting, and a respected modelmaker with an impressive portfolio of film work. You can get familiar with some of Chet's work at www.chetzar.com. This project allowed me to develop my fibreglass moulding and resin casting technique, and I thoroughly enjoyed improving these skills.
The pale one is marble powder mixed with GRP resin, and finished with ink. The rusty one is iron powder mixed with GRP resin, and treated.
I have been keeping a blog of my developments and ideas for this project (saves paper). It can be found here
